WHAT WE'RE READING

IN NOVEMBER

by Kai Cheng Thom

The story of a young Asian trans girl, pathological liar, and kung-fu expert who runs away from her parents' abusive home in a rainy city called Gloom. Striking off on her own, she finds her true family in a group of larger-than-life trans femmes who live in a mysterious pleasure district known only as the Street of Miracles. Under the wings of this fierce and fabulous flock, the protagonist blossoms into the woman she has always dreamed of being, with a little help from the unscrupulous Doctor Crocodile. When one of their number is brutally murdered, she joins her sisters in forming a vigilante gang to fight back against the transphobes, violent johns, and cops that stalk the Street of Miracles. But when things go terribly wrong, she must find the truth within herself in order to stop the violence and discover what it really means to grow up and find your family.

  4 PM • VIRTUAL

Tips for Obtaining Books:

If you do not wish to purchase the book of the month, first--check our local library!  Gail Borden Public Library has many of the books we cover.  If there are no copies available in stock, you can either:

1) Check the Hoopla app or Cloud Library!  They are both free to use if you have a library card with Gail Borden, and feature many audio books and ebooks, as well as other digital materials.

2) Submit a material request form from Gail Borden!  Make sure you mention that it's for a Book Club in the "Additional Information" field, so they get the materials asap! You can submit a material request form here.

3) Ask our members! Many members like to purchase physical copies of books we cover, or already own one, so reach out and see if anyone is willing to lend it to you.

If there's a book with LGBTQ+ subjects or themes that you're interested in, please recommend it to us! We are always looking for our next picks.
